Hearing Ty Lee yelp startled her. She was confused when the girl pulled away and put distance between them. Azula then noticed the burn marks on her girlfriend’s wrists. “Ty… Ty Lee, I’m…”

She was at a loss of words. Slowly she reached out to touch Ty Lee’s hands again, but pulled them back and clenched her fists. “Ty… I don’t know how it happened. I didn’t know I was… I’m sorry.”

Ty Lee closed her eyes tightly and strayed away from the other girl, looking at her as if she were a stranger.

“Please don’t,” she whimpered when Azula reached for her burned wrists. The skin around her delicate wrists was red, and raw. It still burned. “It’s okay,” Ty Lee looked at Azula and tried to smile, but she figured she looked rather pathetic trying to hide her pain. “It’s not that bad, I promise,” she assured the princess, though she knew she would need serum or else the marks would create ugly scars.

She continued to distance herself from Azula, scooting closer towards the rock and further from the princess. Ty Lee could see in Azula’s eyes that she hadn’t meant to burn her, but for some reason the Kyoshi warrior was afraid anyways.

“I’m sorry,” Ty Lee apologized. For Azula to burn her that must’ve meant that she was angry, and that meant that Ty Lee had upset her princess. “I-I hope I didn’t upset you. If I did I’m sorry Azula!”

Azula felt her heart drop to her stomach. “What do you mean it’s not that bad? Ty Lee, it’s practically raw!” When she tried reaching for Ty Lee again, but the other girl scooted away from her.

She looked down at her palms as Ty Lee kept scooting away from her. She couldn’t imagine what triggered her to unconsciously firebend. “Ty Lee, you didn’t upset me. I don’t know why I firebended.”

Slowly she scooted closer to the warrior. She stared at Ty Lee’s burned wrists and flinched seeing how bad the burns were. “Would you please let me look at it?” Azula reached for her girlfriend’s hand.

Ty Lee noticed Azula’s tense body language and she wished she could just omit everything she had said before. She had known Azula would get upset, too. But how fair was it that the princess could talk about her problems but Ty Lee was apprehensive to do so? She shifted and brought her gaze to Azula’s topaz eyes when she grabbed her wrists. Inwardly, Ty Lee cringed.

“I just have to get used to everything,” Ty Lee explained quickly. She could tell by Azula’s aura that she was agitated. It made Ty Lee nervous and hesitant to speak her mind, being ever-so-cautious of the fire bender’s notorious temper.

“There are a lot of—” She paused and sucked in a breath, Azula’s hands around her wrists were growing warmer and tighter. Her skin twitched at the increase in temperature. “Changes. And I know you can’t help it, you’ve been through so much and I don’t want you to change because I got a little bit—” Ty Lee interrupted herself with a yelp and jerked her hands away from Azula’s.

In an instant, the hands that were a little bit too warm had quickly increased in temperature and burned the delicate skin of Ty Lee’s wrists. Not even Ty Lee had reflexes quick enough to pull away without being injured.

She cradled her injured wrists to her chest and flinched away from Azula, creating space between them. The skin that had been beneath Azula’s hands was bright red and starting to blister and it stung—badly. Ty Lee’s lip quivered and her huge grey eyes filled with tears. Even though there had been no flame, her skin still felt like it was on fire, and it took all of her willpower not to start crying.

Ty Lee looked at Azula apologetically, but didn’t make an effort to get any closer to the princess.

[Sorry for not being really active the past couple of days

School will be starting in two weeks. That’s going to be kicking my ass and I’ve been working on putting a dent into my art work’s list for what I will be selling at conventions.

Once school starts I will be really inactive here, but will slowly get through stuff over on the AskChibAzula blog (still working on the answers that were currently asked.)

Tomorrow I will be working on any replies I owe.]

Azula blinked in confusion as she saw a young girl running around looking almost identical to her when she was five. “What…”

The 2012 Brazilian Olympic Synchronized Swimming team performed to music from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Amazing!

[While Brasil might have won 7th, they take 1st place in my book for using music from Avatar: The Last Airbender for their synchronized swim DURING the Olympics!]

Ty Lee frowned and wrapped her arms around her body, hugging herself. She bit her lip. She had hoped Azula wouldn’t elaborate further, though deep down inside she knew that she probably shouldn’t keep things from her girlfriend.

Growing up with Azula had taught her to cherish the little things, the small, affectionate gestures. They had been rare, during the war even rarer, but Azula had always made sure Ty Lee felt useful and appreciated. Now, however, things were much much different.

Ty Lee was still hesitant to admit that Azula had been rather unmindful, for she was scared the princess would get upset. “It’s… it’s not exactly you.” She answered without answering, bringing her hands to her braid and avoiding Azula’s gaze. “I just missed you a lot and I dunno,” She frowned, not knowing how to speak without sounding condescending. “I don’t want you try to be anything you’re not.” Ty Lee finally said.

Azula sat up taller as a natural reflex for getting ready to be defensive as Ty Lee talked. She grabbed hold of the other girl’s hands to keep Ty Lee from playing with her braid. “A lot of people have been telling me to talk even if I don’t want to. You, Mai, and I forced Zuko to talk when we were on Ember Island. Now talk to me. What exactly is it that you mean you don’t want to try and make me be something I’m not.”

She bit her lip hoping she wasn’t starting to become what she was during the war. She wanted to understand what was going through her girlfriends mind. Azula can’t always read Ty Lee like she could with others and that had always frustrated her. Her grip around Ty Lee’s wrists tightened a little.

“I can’t understand you or what goes through your mind like other people. I need you to talk to me.”
